What is beautiful Down Under
Australian uniqueness when it comes to geographical position, “upside-down” seasons, and amazing nature leads to a different sense of aesthetics. The overall visual impressions are influenced by indigenous heritage, but mainly determined by colonial influence and modern aspirations. Although it’s difficult exactly to put a finger on what’s so different about Australia’s vision of beauty, we’ll try to analyze it and display several areas where it’s most obvious.
A Typical Aussie Home
It’s be hard to recognize Australian style home décor the moment you enter one’s house. But after a while, you will notice some subtle differences that reflect the typical Australian approach to home décor – clean, open, elegant, yet casual. How do they do it? Well, the prevailing colors are almost always neutral, which contributes to the clean look, openness of the space and elegance. The layered elements (e.g. rug on rug, sheepskin, knitted blankets) add warmth and texture. Nature is brought inside with plant life and coastal elements, while local arts and crafts are the only exclusively Aussie details.
They Are Not Into Must-Haves
Aussies are untamed in nature. They live freely.Forget about boundaries and must-follow trends if you want to be a real Aussie when it comes to fashion. Shopping for clothes made by local designers is their favourite sport, and that goes for beauty products as well.
Australian girls tend to look as natural as possible. They do appreciate the natural looking skin complexion and often opt for natural beach waves when it comes to their hair. When it comes to makeup they love to keep it minimal looking, but they do splurge on good quality products. They love their skin smooth and their teeth white and healthy. That’s why wearing adult braces is so popular in OZ.
A Pop of Pop Culture
We’re often blinded by glamour and glitz of Hollywood that we fail to see the splendour of different pop culture manifestations around the world. Southern hemisphere is famous and beloved for its charming movie stars, talented musicians and great movies and TV shows. Some of the most famous household names of Australian pop culture (people, bands and movies/TV shows) are Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, AC/DC, Kylie Minogue, Gotye, and INXS. It’s obvious from these examples that Aussies excel in producing films that stand the test of time, music that shakes the entire world and celebrities who are wanted in Hollywood and beyond.
A Cocktail of Cuisines
Finally, Australian cuisine is there to clarify how exactly can Aussies borrow ideas from the rest of the world and make them their own. Due to rich cultural history and later migrations, an average Australian’s plate is often filled with Indian, Chinese, Turkish, French, Italian and other dishes. Their jolly spirit is the reason why they like socializing or how they like to call it “matehood” food (e.g. barbecue, lamb, beef…). In most of the areas the main ingredient for culinary delights is seafood.
As every other, Australian aesthetic appeal evolved with time, but due to the remoteness of the continent it hasn’t fallen under the globalization influence. On the contrary, it took what is offered and made it its own. Australia might be called the Land Down Under, but when it comes to comprehension of beauty, it is often up and above.
